Apotex announces grant to Foundation for Mother and Child Health to promote maternal health with CAD $100,000 in annual funding

Apotex Inc. ("Apotex"), the largest Canadian-based pharmaceutical company, yesterday announced a grant through the Apotex Global Health Access Fund to the Foundation for Mother and Child Health ("FMCH") in Mumbai, India to support programs that promote maternal health and address child malnutrition.

Building on Apotex's legacy of giving, including Apotex's global medicine donation program, the Apotex Global Health Access Fund focuses on addressing unequal access to care and low health literacy within communities where there are poor social determinants of health. Apotex's Indian headquarters are in Bangalore.

FMCH is the latest Apotex Global Health Access Fund grant recipient, and the first in India. The organization will receive CAD $100,000 annually over the next three years to support the 1000 Days Intervention project, which provides comprehensive maternal health services to high-risk pregnant women in Thane, aiming to reduce malnutrition and improve maternal health outcomes.

"We are thrilled to announce this grant to the Foundation for Mother and Child Health, which underscores our commitment to addressing health disparities," said Ariel Alon, Chief Operation Officer at Apotex. "By supporting initiatives like the 1000 Days Intervention project, we aim to make a significant impact on maternal health and the well-being of families, supporting people on their health journeys."

"We're delighted to partner with Apotex to bring FMCH's 1000 Days Intervention program to Thane," said FMCH Development Lead Mrunal Patil. "This 3-year collaboration marks a powerful step toward our shared vision of reducing preventable malnutrition. With Apotex's support, we'll be able to reach hundreds of families with our program Poshan during the most critical window of a child’s life. We’re deeply grateful for their commitment to community health and excited for the journey ahead."

In its inaugural year, the Apotex Global Health Access Fund focuses on funding maternal health programs in Canada, the United States, India, and Mexico with an annual budget of $1 million. The first grant recipient was the Rexdale Community Health Centre in Toronto. This was followed by Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County (HMHB/Broward) in Lauderhill, Florida, receiving $242,000 annually over three years to support their Mahogany Project, and Vida y Familia México, I.A.P. (VIFAC) in Mexico, receiving $100,000 annually over three years to support their comprehensive maternal and child health services.
