Day in the Life: Mariam Omar
Meet Mariam Omar, Production Supervisor in the Encapsulation Dosing Department at our Etobicoke, Ontario site. She is part of a dynamic, fast-paced team that is responsible for producing capsules.
We asked Mariam about her experience at Apotex.
How long have you been working with Apotex?
I have worked at Apotex for three years. I initially joined the Fluid Operations Department as a Junior Production Supervisor. Then, I was transferred to the Encapsulation Department as a Production Supervisor.
Describe how your workday has changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic
First and foremost, everyone onsite has an added responsibility of keeping each other safe through social distancing, while not compromising the quality of our work. As a production supervisor I provide additional moral support to our teams by listening and ensuring any concerns are raised then addressed promptly.
Describe how you feel knowing that you are helping millions of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is the most rewarding and humbling experience to work for a company that helps millions of people – literally! Personally, knowing that my teams’ efforts are helping deliver essential medicines that patients rely on, motivates and pushes me every day.
What is your favourite part about working for Apotex?
It is all about the people for me. At Apotex, we have a family-like atmosphere – with support everywhere you go. The culture is nurturing, and hard work is expected and appreciated.
I am happiest when… we deliver our targets and frequently break production records!
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I am a fitness junkie and a musician. I love playing tennis, I have played for almost 20 years. I also play the piano, so I pour my heart and soul out into music. I also really enjoy spending time with my family, and cooking.
