Montreal, Canada, May 25, 2020 – Apotex, Canada’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturer donated thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer across ten hospitals in Montreal and surrounding areas to help protect frontline workers and patients in the fight against COVID-19.

“With the largest part of our global operations in Canada, we are always focused on supporting the communities in which we live and work” said Ray Shelley, SVP, Commercial Operations-Canada & Caribbean, Apotex. “We recognize that the number of COVID-19 cases remains high in Quebec, and we are pleased to step up and support the province’s frontline workers and patients in hospitals with much-needed hand sanitizer.”

Since April 2020, Apotex Pharmachem, a division of Apotex and Canada’s largest producer of active pharmaceutical ingredients, has been using its Health-Canada approved technical expertise and manufacturing capability to produce hand sanitizer to be distributed among healthcare facilities and communities in Canada.

The pandemic has highlighted that now more than ever, domestic manufacturing is essential as it enables agility and flexibility in manufacturing capabilities based on patient, industry and community needs.

This announcement builds on Apotex’s commitment of donating two million dosages of Hydroxychloroquine to the Public Health Agency of Canada for use in clinical trials being conducted within Canada, including multiple studies being conducted at clinical sites in Quebec that will impact Quebec patients.
