Canadian Company Responds to Haiti Earthquake Relief Efforts with $2 Million of Much Needed Medicines

Apotex to Distribute Important Transdermal System for Management of Chronic Pain in the U.S. Market

Weston, FL - Apotex Corp announced today that it has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical Company of Japan. Apotex will sell to the U.S. healthcare market, Hisamitsu's recently FDA approved matrix Fentanyl Transdermal System for the management of chronic pain. The Fentanyl Transdermal System, developed by Hisamitsu, is manufactured at the company's state of the art Carlsbad, California facility. The total Fentanyl patch market in the U.S. represents approximately $1.2 billion in sales.

Second Shipment Of Life-Saving Aids Drug Leaving For Africa

Toronto, ON - Apotex Inc. today announced that the second shipment of Apo-TriAvir, the generic triple-combination AIDS drug produced to simplify AIDS treatment in developing countries, was leaving for Rwanda, the only country to have benefited from Canada's Access to Medicines Regime (CAMR). CAMR was created by Parliament more than 5 years ago, but because of the costly and complicated process it requires, no other company has come forward to participate in producing more affordable, life-saving generic drugs for export to developing countries.

FDA Pharmaceutical Import Alert

Toronto, ON - Apotex today issued the following statement concerning an Import Alert issued by the US Food and Drug Administration: The Import Alert recently posted by FDA applies to products manufactured at 2 of Apotex's many facilities. This alert relates to observations made following routine audits for products destined to the US only. We are actively working with the FDA to resolve the identified concerns as quickly as possible, and are optimistic that there will be a prompt resolution.

Appeals Court Affirms Plavix® Patent

Weston, FL - Apotex Corp. announced today that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) in the case of Bristol Myers Squib/Sanofi v. Apotex, Inc. has found that U.S. Patent 4,847,265 (the '265 patent) covering Plavix® is valid and enforceable. The ruling upholds the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York's June 2007 decision regarding the '265 patent. The '265 patent covers clopidogrel bisulfate, the active ingredient in Plavix®. Apotex will simultaneously pursue a rehearing / rehearing en banc of today's decision.

Canadian Company Receives Final Tender Approval From Rwanda For Vital AIDS Drug

Toronto, ON - Apotex Inc., Canada's largest generic pharmaceutical company has successfully bid and been awarded a tender from the Rwandan Government for the life saving triple combination AIDS drug "Apo Triavir". Apotex is the first company to provide this medicine to Africa under the provisions of the Canadian Access to Medicines Regime (CAMR).

Apotex Launches Generic Norvasc®

Weston, FL - Apotex Corp. announced today that it has launched amlodipine besylate tablets (2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg), the generic equivalent of Pfizer's Norvasc®. The launch follows Monday's issuance of the mandate by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit's decision of March 22 invalidating Pfizer's US Patent 4,879,303 (the '303 patent) covering amlodipine besylate. The decision came in an action brought by Pfizer against Apotex. Apotex successfully invalidated the Pfizer patent.

Apotex Invalidates Norvasc® Patent

Weston, FL - Apotex Corp. announced today the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of Pfizer, Inc. v. Apotex, Inc. reversed a trial court's ruling and found that Pfizer's U.S. Patent 4,879,303 (the '303 patent) covering the Pfizer product Norvasc® was invalid. The '303 patent covers amlodipine besylate the active ingredient in Norvasc® as well as tablets made from amlodipine besylate. Because the limiting patent expires in two days, no company will have exclusivity over the product. Apotex expects to launch the product in the very near future.

Court Halts Sales of Generic Plavix®

Weston, FL - Apotex Corp. today announced that the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York has granted the request of Bristol Myers Squibb and Sanofi to issue a preliminary injunction to prevent further sales of Apotex's generic version of Sanofi's Plavix® (clopidogrel 75mg tablets). The Court denied BMS and Sanofi's request to force Apotex to recall product it has already shipped.
