Clinical
Facility
Our Clinical Operations Facility has been operational since
May 1999 and is one of the highest quality research
facilities of its kind in North America.
The facility has over 30,000 square feet of space and is
capable of housing over 100 subjects. The environment is
bright, comfortable and clean. The subject lounge is warm
and relaxing and is furnished with a pool table and
satellite TVs. The sleeping areas are private and there are
quiet areas designated for reading and studying. Subjects
are monitored regularly throughout the study by qualified
medical personnel. We have a staff of approximately 100,
trained to international standards for clinical studies.
Normally, a study would require that you be in our clinical
facility the night prior to the actual commencement of the
Clinical Trial. The next day you will be given a dose of a
drug. Blood and / or urine samples will be taken from you at
different timed intervals throughout the duration of the
study. Amount of blood taken is usually no more than what is
given to the Canadian Blood Services. You would be required
to repeat this procedure at a set time period (usually the
following week).
All of your activities in our facility are timed and
monitored and captured using and electronic data capture
system. You will be given a schedule of events that you must
adhere to.
Meals
At Apotex Inc., we provide well balanced meals to our
subjects. Our meals are freshly prepared by a professional
chef in our own kitchen. Our meals are one of the reasons
that we get so many returning participants in our Clinical
Trials.
Sample Menu
- Prime Rib Roast
- Soup or Salad
- Baked / Mashed or Roast Potatoes
- Mixed Vegetables
- Dinner Roll
- Dessert
- Juice or Fruit Drink
Not all studies have the same menu.
This is an example of our most common dinner menu.
There are two different types of studies that are conducted
at Apotex Inc.. One is a Fed study which means that subjects
will receive (depending on the study) either a High Fat
breakfast which includes: 2 fried eggs in butter, 2 strips
of bacon, 2 slices of toast with butter, 1 serving of Hash
Brown potatoes, and, homogenized milk or a Low Fat
breakfast, which includes: 2 slices of toast with jam, Corn
Flakes with skim milk, and, orange juice prior to dosing.
(Lunch and dinner will also be served depending on the time
requirement). A fasting study means that the subjects will
not receive breakfast prior to dosing. It is very important
that you complete 100% of the meals provided as required.
