Indications:
For fast and effective relief of heartburn, acid indigestion and upset or sour stomach due to excess stomach acid. Also prevents these symptoms brought on by consuming food and/or beverage.
Directions:
Adults and children 12 years of age and older: For fast and effective relief of symptoms, take one (1) tablet. For prevention of acid-related symptoms brought on by consuming food and/or beverage, take one (1) tablet one hour before eating. If symptoms return, you may take another tablet. Do not take more than two tablets during a 24-hour period. If symptoms persist for more than two consecutive weeks, consult your physician.
Cautions:
Consult with your physician or pharmacist before using if: You are taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [NSAIDS] (because these medicines may be causing your symptoms).
Drug Interactions:
The efficacy of some anti-fungal medications may be reduced when taken with famotidine.
Contraindications:
Contranidicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to famotidine, other H2 antagonists, or any component of the formultion.
Toxicity/Adverse Reactions:
Generally well tolerated. Headache, dizziness, constipation, and diarrhea are the more common adverse reactions. Others may include, nausea and vomiting, anorexia, abdominal discomfort, dry mouth, insomnia, somnolence, anxiety, paresthesia, depression, decreased libido, bronchospasm, fatigue, asthenia, fever, musculoskeletal pain, arthralgia, pruritus, rash, alopecia, flushing, acne, angioedema, or anaphylaxis.
Symptoms and Treatment of Overdose:
Doses of up to 800 mg/day have been employed in patients with pathological hypersecretory conditions with no serious adverse effects. In the event of overdosage, treatment should be symptomatic and supportive. Unabsorbed material should be removed from the gastrointestinal tract, the patient should be monitored, and supportive therapy should be employed.
