Corporate Procurement
& Business Services
Corporate
Procurement Services is in the business of supply
management; not just placing orders with vendors, although
that function is also provided. Procurement contributes a
cash flow benefit to Apotex's significant annual
expenditure, and is a strategic function representing Apotex
to the business community.
Procurement Services manages the following activities:
- Vendor reduction/consolidation
- Supplier management
- Cost price/value analysis
- Travel and entertainment
- Direct and indirect materials
- Intra- and inter-corporate relationships
- Service buying
- Buying consortiums/strategic sourcing
- Contract management
- Training
- Database integrity and statistical reporting
- E-commerce
- Cross-functional teams
Co-operative procurement is critical to electronic
commerce and assists in inventory management, supply
chain management, cost reduction, and improves
organizational efficiency. Streamlining of internal
processes associated with direct and indirect spending
compresses the indirect cost of goods, reduces the
procurement cost and ultimately reduces the cost of
finished saleable goods, resulting in increased profit
margins.
The implementation of SAP software in the corporation is
a key tool to managing the procurement process for a
growing worldwide organization: it acts as a springboard
for enhancing many procurement processes.
