Information
Services
The role of Information Services is to enable the
organization to access, store, share it's operational data,
and produce information that is meaningful to the management
of the Apotex business. In so doing, the department’s
mandate is to provide mechanisms to streamline and eliminate
work and to create quick and efficient means of
communication. This results in productivity improvement and
allows the organization to direct significant resources
toward both domestic and international growth and expansion.
At Apotex, the Information Services Department is a vital
contributor to the achievement of the company's operational
and strategic business goals. The business unit consists of
four departments: Consulting and Testing Services;
Application Services; Customer Support and Planning; and
Infrastructure.
Consulting and Testing Services
This group is responsible for tactical development, support,
quality assurance, testing and validation of current Apotex
and client systems. It is also responsible for the long term
strategic development and/or deployment of business critical
core applications within Apotex. The group works with major
business verticals to ensure the delivery of solutions that
meet long-term business needs.
Application Services
This group is responsible for supporting the enterprise wide
Commercial and Scientific applications that are at the core
of the company's manufacturing, marketing and sales, and
research and development operations. The group also supports
the mid-tier server architecture like report servers and
portal servers, that enable the enterprise applications.
Apotex operates in a highly regulated industry, and the
Application Services department also incorporates a Change
Management group, that controls and manages all changes to
the IS software, hardware and database infrastructure.
Customer Support and Planning
This group's mission is to improve the flow and
understanding of information within Apotex to maximize
communication and problem solving. The department includes
the Support Centre, the Information Centre, and the
Logistics functions within Information Services.
Infrastructure
This department includes Data Centre Operations and
Integration, Voice and Data Telecommications and a Privacy
and Security group. The staff handles both tactical
operational support calls and the planning of long-term
strategic hardware and software technology architecture.
The Apotex Information Services department prides itself on
effective use of leading-edge technology, the development of
exceptional in-house expertise and the professional delivery
of state-of-the-art information management. With more than
2km of fibre optic cabling surrounding the Apotex campus, we
are one of the first companies in Canada to install a
private fibre optic network. Communications capabilities are
now in place to sufficiently support the organization’s
requirements through the beginning of the new millennium.
