THE APOTEX GROUP DONATES $1.5 MILLION
TO LAVAL UNIVERSITY’S FACULTY OF PHARMACY
QUEBEC CITY
– The Apotex Group today announced a $1.5 million donation to Laval University’s
Faculty of Pharmacy. The university and representatives of the pharmaceutical company who attended the
event were extremely enthusiastic about the announced donation which will be used to support the development
of a very innovative teaching program known as the Pharmacy Virtual Intervention
Program.
A true and unique learning platform, the Pharmacy Virtual Intervention Program will facilitate the integration of new
knowledge by students within the program of learning at Laval University’s Faculty of Pharmacy. The project will
enable students to develop a structured approach through the solving of virtual clinical case studies. This teaching
tool will expose the user to concrete clinical work situations in pharmacy through the presence of various virtual interveners, client dossiers, various tools available to pharmacists and required for monitoring purposes as well as pharmacotherapy follow-ups.
Dr. Michael Spino, Senior Vice-President, Scientific Affairs, The Apotex Group, stated that: “the support provided
Laval University’s Faculty of Pharmacy is but another example of The Apotex Group’s intent to support universities in
responding effectively to the new training needs of pharmacists. Our company recognized the originality and relevance
of the program developed by Laval University, the first of its kind in Canada. This confirms our leadership role in the
training of pharmacists.”
According to Laval University Rector Michel Pigeon, the donation by The Apotex Group to the Pharmacy Virtual
Intervention Program recognizes the excellent quality of the research and training programs provided by the
Faculty of Pharmacy. Mr. Pigeon also emphasized that Laval University encourages the development of teaching
methods through the use of new technologies and consider this program to be an innovative value added teaching tool.
“Through its association with Laval University, The Apotex Group is providing the Faculty of Pharmacy a wonderful
opportunity to enhance its teaching offering not only to registered students but also to those who have already
completed their studies and are now practicing their profession. Indeed, the Pharmacy Virtual Intervention Program
will also be available on the Web for those registered in a continuing education activity,” said the Dean of the
Faculty of Pharmacy, Mrs. Monique Richer.
